NIPSCO Releases Contractors To Aid In Hurricane Ivan Electric Restoration

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. -- Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) announced today that it has released electric line and tree-trimming contractors to assist in storm restoration work in Alabama. Approximately 1.5 million Alabama residents were left without power after Hurricane Ivan pummeled the Gulf Coast area.

“While these contractors are a key part to serving our customers and maintaining our electric system, we are confident we can continue to serve our customers’ needs while at the same time assisting the Alabama utilities in restoring service to their customers,” said NIPSCO General Manager Tim Dehring.

Earlier this month, NIPSCO released contractors to assist in restoring power to thousands of Florida residents affected by Hurricanes Charley and Frances.

NIPSCO, with headquarters in Merrillville, Ind., is one of the 10 energy distribution companies of NiSource Inc. (NYSE: NI). With nearly 700,000 natural gas customers and 440,000 electric customers across the northern third of Indiana, NIPSCO is the largest natural gas distribution company, and the second largest electric distribution company, in the state. NiSource distribution companies serve 3.7 million natural gas and electric customers primarily in nine states. More information about NIPSCO is available at www.nipsco.nisource.com.
