MERRILLVILLE, Ind. -- Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) hosted its second annual South Bend Safety Awareness Day for NIPSCO employees on Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at its South Bend operating headquarters. Field employees spent the afternoon attending classes on a variety of safety topics.
"Whether it was this event or our overall safety program, the issue is always ‘Safety First...Safety Always’," said NIPSCO General Manager Tim Dehring. "This program highlighted on-the-job safety practices – everything from truck safety to excavation safety to ergonomics. It’s one way that the company is ensuring that employees have the information they need to perform their jobs safely, day in and day out."
The event covered the following topics:
"Programs such as these are the reason that NIPSCO was the recipient of the 2003 NiSource Distribution Safety Award," Dehring added. "NIPSCO takes its commitment to safety and the well being of its employees very seriously."
