MERRILLVILLE, Ind. Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) is reminding residents to be aware of impersonators who identify themselves as NIPSCO employees. During the beginning of the heating season, a number of customers may be calling NIPSCO more frequently for heating services. And from time to time, there are reports of incidents involving impersonators across northern Indiana.
"The safety of our customers and employees is our primary concern," said Ken Foley, general manager. "All NIPSCO employees are required to carry and display a company photo identification (ID) card. We advise our customers to request to see the identification card before allowing anyone into their homes."
In addition to the photo ID, NIPSCO signs are displayed either on the outside of the employee's vehicle, or inside the vehicle itself.
"If our customers suspect impersonator activity, we encourage them to call the local police immediately," Foley said.
