MERRILLVILLE, Ind.---- Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) set a new record today in delivering electricity to customers on one of the hottest days of the year. NIPSCO provided 3,385 Megawatts of power, surpassing its previous record of 3,358 Megawatts, which was set August 8, 2001.
"We have been able to meet the increased demands of our customers, during this extended period of higher-than-normal temperatures," said NIPSCO President and Chief Executive Officer Barrett Hatches. "Across our service territory, temperatures ranged between 93 and 95 degrees, with a heat index as high as 105 degrees.
"Our employees have worked diligently to insure a continuous supply of reliable electricity to meet our customers needs during this period of high electrical demand. "
Meteorologists are predicting cooler weather for the next few days. However, temperatures are expected to return to the 90's by the weekend.
