NIPSCO SEEKS NEGOTIATED SETTLEMENT IN ELECTRIC RATE INVESTIGATION

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) today filed a petition asking the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) to deny the request of the Citizens Action Coalition for a final order in the commission's investigation into the company's electric rates.

"Productive discussions involving most of the parties appear to be nearly complete following many weeks of negotiations," said NIPSCO President and Chief Executive Officer Barrett Hatches. "We hope to file a settlement agreement within the next two weeks."

Once a settlement is reached between the parties, it will be filed with the IURC.

NIPSCO, with headquarters in Merrillville, Ind., is one of the 10 energy distribution companies of NiSource Inc. (NYSE: NI). With nearly 700,000 natural gas customers and 430,000 electric customers across the northern third of Indiana, NIPSCO is the largest natural gas distribution company, and the second largest electric distribution company, in the state. NiSource distribution companies serve 3.7 million natural gas and electric customers primarily in nine states. More information about NIPSCO is available at www.nipsco.com.
