NIPSCO PROVIDES ELECTRIC SAFETY TRAINING TO
AREA FIREFIGHTERS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT
GOSHEN, Ind., – Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), a subsidiary of NiSource Inc., provided electric safety training today to firefighters and law enforcement officers in Elkhart and Kosicusko counties. The objective of this community service effort was to make the participants aware of electrical hazards and ways to prevent injuries.
Employees from NIPSCO’s LaPorte Training Center facilitated the session at NIPSCO’s Goshen Local Operating office. NIPSCO trainers educated firefighters about electrical terms, the effects of electrical currents on the body, the basics of NIPSCO’s electrical system and electrical hazards. At the end of the training session, firefighters and law enforcement representatives were quizzed on the information they learned. NIPSCO provides this training to all emergency response personnel throughout its service territory approximately every three years.
"This is a very serious training session," said Al Merrick, senior instructor, Training and Development. "We try to cater the training around actual events that could happen to the participants while they are on their job."
